Christmas 2012

We woke up Christmas morning to the sound of Sadie getting her craft supplies out of her craft drawer.  We went out to check on her and she was happily sitting at the table cutting, gluing  and drawing.  She oftentimes does that if she wakes up before everyone else.  Ben and I were really excited and asked her if Santa had come.  She replied, “No, there’s no snow on the ground.”  She wasn’t disappointed – just factual about it.  We told her we thought he had come and suggested we go wake up Jax and check things out.  And so we did.

Sadie, Jax and McKay were pretty excited about the toys they saw waiting for them, but they were mostly excited about the candy and goodies they found in their stockings.

My kids get more excited about the opening of a present rather than what is inside the present.  In fact, Sadie helped Ben do a lot of the wrapping this year and she loved it!  Ben asked Sadie on Christmas morning if she liked wrapping presents more or opening presents more.  Her reply….wrapping.  Just goes to show ya.  I’m happy I didn’t go overboard with buying presents!  We’re kindof bursting at the seams around here and the last thing I need is more stuff to pick up and find places for.  So, I bought a $30 lot of toys off craigslist, golf set, plastic golf balls, 5 $1 dolls for Sadie, rocket launcher, play dough cutting set and I made play dough, band aids (they LOVE to play with them; I think I bought 6 boxes of 100 band aids), craft supplies, gloves, baseballs, and I think that’s it.  On all three kids I bet I spent $75?  Not bad. They were quite pleased.  We also put out some toys that I’ve had in the garage for the past 9 or so months.  The kids acted like they were brand new to them.

After a fun morning at home we headed down to the Homestead for Christmas with my family.

My mom had the brilliant idea of buying the kids suitcases.  Jax practically hyperventilates anytime we’re at the airport because he wants his own suitcase, “I NEED one!” he pleads with us.  He has a thing for suitcases…I don’t understand it.  Well, they were a huge hit with the kids!  They have played with them every wakeful hour of every day since they received them. They’re hiding and hoarding their little collections of objects and knickknacks in them.

We went on a walk that afternoon…..

The kids played with their playdough and rollers with Ben and Kimmy that evening.  They loved play dough. It especially seems to sooth Jax. Special thanks to Grandma Cliffie for introducing us to homemade playdough.  As a funny side note, I didn’t have enough table salt to make the recipe so I used ice cream rock salt and it didn’t all dissolve.  So this set of playdough has large chunks of salt crystals all throughout.  I like to think it gives it personality and visual and textural interest.

Splendid Christmas!  Loads of fond memories and good times.
