On Sunday evening I took Sadie down to the dock by our house for her 5 year old pictures. I’m in complete disbelief and denial about her being five. “The days are loooonnnng, but the years are short” – one of the truest statements I’ve ever heard to describe motherhood. How is she five already?!?!?!
Sadie’s teacher mentioned to me today that she remembers her own 5th birthday party and it was one of her earliest memories. That started me thinking about what memories the adult Sadie will have of these first five years. I feel like I’ve lived a lifetime with her already and it’s a little disappointing to me to think of how little she will remember of this time that I have so cherished. Will she remember the happy times, the traumatic events, or nothing at all? I hope she’ll always know what a loved and treasured little girl she was. She has changed me and taught me more than I ever expected.

Joe - Julie and I were just talking about this the other day – with Joseph almost four years old we were wondering if we are at the point that he will remember any of now when he is grown up and how we can make it more memorable. I’m sure many people have written books about such a topic.
That sassy black & white picture is great. I feel like it gives me a glimpse of her personality in the future. Her smile is great in the first two pictures and that seems to best capture her personality presently.

Shannon - I feel bad I totally forgot it was Sadie’s birthday! Five is a big one too. I hope Sadie had fun celebrating her birthday. She sure is beauty Alicia!

Raven - 5 years old? How can that be? I guess if my baby is 6, it’s theoretically possible that yours is 5. And great job on the pictures! Her little personality comes right through!
alicia - I know Raven! I feel like a broken record because every year I just feel like it’s not possible for her to be this old. I’m getting excited for you and #4! Did you know Marnie is expecting #3 in February. She had three really close, too. Crazy!
Mary - Alicia,she is SO beautiful,inside and out! I can’t tell you how much I love that sweet little daughter of yours!!! She is YOU in miniature!!! She is pretty, funny, happy, good, kind, loving, and loves to make people laugh, just like you did when you were a little girl! She is a joy beyond measure!
