Still here…

Yes, I’m still alive (barely).

YES, I’m still pregnant….

Yes, I’ve tried every single way recommended way to naturally start up labor – they’re all lies.  (But, I haven’t tried castor oi. I’m getting desperate and might try that one soon, too.  Any opinions?)

Yes, the doctor wants to induce me and has tried several times but I keep telling them no.

Yes, I’m crazy for telling them no – I totally agree.  If they were here right now I would happily let them give me pitocin.

Yes, my cervix seems ready (3 cm dilated, 50% effaced, head is very low).

Yes, I have an induction set up for Wednesday if it doesn’t happen on it’s own.

Yes, yes, yes – I really hope it can happen on it’s own, but they don’t want me to go to long since the little guy only has one umbilical artery.

Yes, I am also going nuts because the power supply on my computer went this week and it’s still not fixed so I am internet-less.  (I’m currently at my parents’ house).

Yes, now I sit around the house and watch TLC’s Baby Story all day.

Yes, I’m sure I will survive.  Won’t I?

Ben - … as long as you don’t take the caster oilReplyCancel

Johnson Family - My mom tried caster oil with a couple of her babies. One time it worked, and the other time just made her miserable. I’ve never tried it because I didn’t think it would help me. My pregnancies go on and on as well. Marissa was ten days late when I finally went into labor with her. The boys were both induced because I had gone a week past my due date and nothing happened.
I hope you go into labor on your own soon. It sounds like you are a lot further along than I am when I am 40 weeks.
What does it mean when the baby only has one umbilical artery?
We look forward to hearing the news of a new baby in the family!ReplyCancel

Kristy - Okay so I’ve never done the castor oil thing but I have heard that if you mix it with orange juice (maybe concentrate) and vanilla icecream its not too bad. If you want to make a go at it:) oh alicia I hope he comes soon! Good luck with everything!ReplyCancel

Alicia - Hey Shannon, not sure if you’ll see this, but most umbilical cords form with one vein and two arteries. With this pregnancy the baby has one vein and only one artery. Sometimes this means blood supply becomes a problem at the end of pregnancy which is why they especially don’t want me to go too long. I hope that made sense 🙂ReplyCancel

chante - I did castor oil, too… and taste wise (mix with OJ as Kristy mentioned)… it doesn’t taste bad at all. But if you think about what the castor oil is supposed to do– clear you out (the intestinal movement is what supposedly starts the uterine contractions)…. then that part is, admittedly, miserable. BUT… it did work for me. Kinda. I had really strong, rhythmic contractions for several hours (I was using birthing techniques to handle them, as an indication of how strong the contractions were)… but my cervix was not soft enough yet, so labor eventually stopped. If you are pretty well effaced and are feeling desperate, I say go for it (ps- it’s day 2 of the castor oil that labor would begin… I can send you the “regimen” if you like)… but it’s really up to you. The BEST news is…. as much as I know it FEELS like forever… no woman actually does stay pregnant forever 🙂 Of course, I also understand how stressful it can be wanting to avoid the induction route. (For the record, I think it’s absurd that induction dates are required by law even if the baby and fluid levels are all healthy. But moving on!) Just want you to know that we are still thinking of you and sending labor-inducing thoughts your way. Love ya, Alicia!ReplyCancel

Heather - Oh dear Alicia! I know the feeling. Except I had NO improvement. Even my Doctor told me it looked like I was going to be pregnant forever!!! I wanted to punch his lights out, but thats another story. Good luck. I don’t know about the oil….Ewww! You will be worn out from pooping all day!! Have you tried the sex route? lol, Yes, I’m being blunt, but what is new? Thats the only thing that is proven to help. Give it a shot. Poor Alicia. I hated saying to everyone….”YES…I”M STILL PREGNANT!” You will do great. Good luck, and post soon!ReplyCancel
