Last week my sister came to visit with her family. We’re very close and it was wonderful to have time together. Visits are quite a bit different now that we have kids that compete for our attention but it’s always a good time when the family is together. I think the adventure of motherhood is helping us form a closer relationship.
I won’t chronicle every detail and activity of their visit, but these are the things that stuck out to me:
- My kids love Matt like no other human being, perhaps even more than Ben and me. I’m always jaw-droppingly struck by how great he is with them and what love and patience he shows to them. Jax clung to his pant leg and followed him from room to room and place to place. I’ve never seen anything like it as long as I’ve lived.
- Christy, likewise, loves my kids so much that it practically makes me cry. Christy is oblivious to any flaw the kids have. She just truly, wholeheartedly loves being around them. Even when I felt like they were annoying Christy she just showed unconditional love for them and complete enjoyment to be in their company. She sees all their strengths and none of their weaknesses. Made me so happy!
- It seemed we ran about 4 hours behind schedule the whole trip. Always made me laugh!
- Madeleine was so sweet, relaxed, and content. I loved those rare moments when I was available to hold her. I think she liked me 😉 Four months is such a great age! I was fearful she’d be overwhelmed by all the commotion but I think she enjoyed observing the chaos. Can’t wait until she’s a little older and can play side by side my kids.
- Highlights: get together at the homestead twice, beach twice, Sunday dinner and walk at our house, pool at our house, and Indian food night at our house.
Matt - I already miss playing with your kids, Alicia!
My favorite pics are “Christy with Kids at Beach,” Ben’s face in the one after that, the very last one with Sadie and the second Christy-Madeleine swimming pic (with Madeleine’s scandalous swimsuit)
All the pictures are great!
Shannon - Looks like a fun visit! I love watching my siblings and their families interact with my children too. It feels wonderful to know they are interested in them and care to know them, especially since we live so far away from family.
Have fun with Natalie this week 🙂
