On Kimmy’s first day home I decided I would take her to the beach. It was really funny to walk into the house and see her sitting on the sofa wearing a skirt and reading her scriptures. Still such a missionary! I convinced her she could wear shorts. After wearing skirts for 18 months straight it was an awkward moment for her to give them up.
Jax was napping, and Sadie wanted to stay with Mimi so just Kimmy, McKay, and I went to the beach.
Kimmy was absolutely giddy with happiness as we drove over the bridge and she saw her first glimpse of the water. It was so entertaining to watch!
We parked at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary and walked through there and then out to the beach. She was seriously overcome with happiness as she took her first steps out onto the sand. She kept running the sand through her hands, turning in circles, and talking about how wonderful it felt to be home. I’ve never seen her quite as happy in all my life.
She started drawing in the sand. She wrote SLCS Mission 🙂 The satisfaction of 18 months of hard work, the joy of being home, the warmth in the air….it was a beautiful moment.
McKay was in a good mood, too. It kills me to look at these pictures and see him walking. He still won’t put an ounce of pressure on his broken leg. I miss my little toddler. It feels like I have a 9 month old again.
I arrived home to find Jax still asleep, and Sadie out back cutting up Mimi’s mango tree. She was adorable! Love everything about her. Every little, itty-bitty thing!!!
