The Day I Turned 29

A long, looonnnngggg time ago I had a birthday.  Well, it was only two weeks ago but it feels like longer.  We’ve been on the go non-stop since that day so that’s why I’m late with my post about it.  So much to do; so little time.

I was more than a little indulgent on my birthday.  It fell on a Wednesday so Ben was at work.  In the morning I hired Ms. Kelly’s daughter to babysit so I could rest and relax.  Ms. Kelly suggested I bring the kids to her house so she could play with them, too.  (Don’t you just love ’em!)  So I dropped them off at 10 and picked them up at 1.  They had a blast!  As did I.  I ran to Target to get some last minute things for our roadtrip the following day, went to Panera for lunch all by myself (WOW!), and then I quickly ran home to change and lay by the pool for an hour.  Kimmy also called from Jerusalem and we had fun catching up.

This year I opted to forego a birthday party.  It felt like too much effort and there wasn’t a convenient time to have it.  Instead…..drum roll please….I decided to do an adult dinner only at Maggiano’s with the family.  We’re each so busy with our kids when we get together we aren’t able to enjoy one another’s company like we once did.  I felt bad leaving the kids behind with another babysitter but they didn’t seem to mind.  They love being babysat now, actually.

Don’t you love Ben with a beard? I certainly do.

Joe and Julie had church commitments so it was Mike, Sarah, Mom, Dad, Gramma, Ben, and me.  We had a great time chatting and indulging in the food.  It was fantastic!  We ate family style and we were there for nearly three hours. I broke every food rule!  It felt good to be free!

So another successful birthday.  It’s been so busy I haven’t had much time to think about how this is my last year in my 20’s.  Shocking.  Where does the time go?

I’m grateful for where I am in life and satisfied with what I’ve done so far with my 29 years.  There’s lots of room for improvement and I’ve set some personal goals about being and doing better.

That about sums it up for this year.
