This was a strange Thanksgiving for us. We were suppose to go to Alabama but plans changed due to traveling to Utah for Grandma Doris’ funeral. So, then our plan was to go to my Aunt Debbie’s with my parents, Aunt Sharon, cousin Stephany and family, and cousins Alex and Johnathon. Joe’s family was in Utah. Mike’s family was in California. Gramma Meyers went to DC. Well, Stephany’s son got sick so they decided it would be best for them and Aunt Sharon to stay home. Then my kids came down with a head cold so decided to stay home. My mom and Aunt Debbie talked about it though and told us still to come since the kids didn’t have a stomach flu or fevers or anything serious. So, I had already bought food for our own little family’s Thanksgiving but we decided to scratch that and spend the day with the family afterall. Well, then, on the morning of Thanksgiving my poor cousin Alex came down with the stomach flu. So in the end, after many changes of plans, we ended up at my parents house….just them and us. It was actually really peaceful and quaint. A nice change of pace for us. Aunt Debbie and my mom did swap food so we were able to eat all of their delicious food 🙂
In the morning Ben played in his beloved Turkey Bowl. I spent the morning trying to cook and keep three kids busy. My mom and Aunt were nice to me and told me not to bring anything since I have three kids to worry about. Aren’t they great!?!? I still felt I should make something, so I brought rolls and a pumpkin crunch pie.
Sadie was actually really good at helping me with the rolls this year:
Something about Sadie was especially lovable and sweet on Thankgiving. She had an extra glow about her. Love that sweet little face!
McKay was pretty ornery (that’s really saying something because even when he’s in a good mood he’s pretty ornery). He cried for the entire hour and 15 minutes to Seminole, refused to nap, and threw several major temper tantrums. I’m really getting to the end of my rope with that little guy, though – just sayin’. But, despite it all, we managed to have a good day.
My parents, Sadie, McKay and I went to the beach for sunset. Jax and Ben were napping. We missed them. It was a beautiful evening.
Shannon - Sadie sure does make beautiful rolls. I’m amazed at how carefully she was rolling the dough.
It is nice every once and a while to have a low key holiday too to be able to have some time to visit one on one with individual family members. You are so blessed to have your parents nearby Alicia. I hope I’ll enjoy that same blessing soon when school is done.
