Mischievous Moe is 13 and a half months

McKay is officially the age Jax was when McKay was born.

Wow.

Good thing Jax came before McKay because McKay never could have shared my attention.  Besides, I’m pretty sure if I didn’t devote my entire focus to supervising McKay he probably would not have survived this long.  I’m constantly pulling him off chairs, tables, counters, beds, the top of the piano, the changing table, and even a 6 foot ladder once – that scare probably took a good year off my life, my heart nearly gave up it’s beat.  Truthfully I’m a little amazed at his climbing abilities.  He’s got real talent!

When he’s not climbing he’s usually sticking his fingers in electrical sockets.  We think he got shocked once in Utah.  Did he learn his lesson?  No!  He loves putting dangerous objects in his mouth.  For instance, one of his favorite games is to throw the remote control over and over until the back pops off and then gnaw on the batteries.  Also, bouncy balls are a major temptation for him.  And if I pull his hands out of the toilet water one more time I think I’m going to weep.  That happens at least 5 times a day.  I don’t even care anymore.  That’s a lie!  Yes, I really do.  It’s so gross.  I keep my toilet really, really clean lately because of it though.  *That’s me trying to look on the bright side*  We’re pretty sure he’s going to be a plumber one day.  If not a plumber than a professional wrestler because that kid is impossible to pin down.  To change his diaper I sit him in my lap and distract him with a toy.  It’s quite a challenge.

To summarize McKay: if something is hot he wants to touch it, if something is sharp he wants to hold it, if I want him to go left he goes right, if I want him to sit he insists on standing, wherever there is a road he wants to stand in the middle of it, and if there’s a puddle he insists on playing in it.

*Sigh of exhaustion*

He’s one mischievous little kid.  Good thing he’s cute!

I could never handle being 9 months pregnant or having a newborn right now.  However, the way it worked out was perfect.  Jax was about as mellow and perfect as any 13 and half month old I’ve ever met.  He was so willing to share the attention.  He was so willing to wait his turn.  He was so good to follow me when we were out in public.  He was so patient when I was distracted with McKay.  It never would have worked had he not had the sweet and obedient disposition that he does.  What a blessing!

My point is not that McKay is awful and Jax is wonderful.  They are different, though, that’s for sure.  McKay is passionate, curious, and determined.  Jax is content, observant, and calm.  Both are sweet.  Both are entertaining.  Both are loved!  They’re just of very different temperaments.  Each perfect in their unique natures.

It’s my belief that Heavenly Father knows me and has a plan for my life and for my family.  I can see the beauty and balance and guidance as I ponder our family, our children, and the timing of events.  Just after Jax was born I had several dreams that I was pregnant again.  In a way I knew there was another child that was eager to join our family.  It wasn’t the time that I would have chosen for him to come but I’m so happy that God has a plan bigger and grander than what my I try to map out with my limited vision.  We feel so blessed and so incredibly grateful to have McKay.  He belongs here now. I’ve always known it.  He brings an excitement and happiness to our family.

I guess my point is Heavenly Father knows what he’s doing and we just need to trust him and learn from the life experiences He gives us.  When we do what’s right and try to live the best we can life has a way of working out just as it should.  Sometimes I day dream about living other places and doing other things but at the end of the day I have an overwhelming peace that I’m exactly where I’m suppose to be, doing exactly what I’m meant to do…..pulling hands out of toilets, batteries out of mouths, and babies off tables.

When he’s not getting into trouble he has a really sweet look to him:

And he’s really, really cute when he’s doing this:

Shannon - I didn’t know McKay was such a busy, little guy. It sounds like he’s keeping you on your toes. He sure is a cutie though and so worth every ounce of attention and love you’re giving him. I really like how you documented all the mischievous things he is doing too.ReplyCancel

Joe - Sounds like James except we have those plugs blocking every electrical outlet in the house so he can’t play with them.ReplyCancel

Sharla - I get tired chasing Amanda all day, but she doesn’t have 1/2 the tricks McKay does! Good thing he’s so cute! And I love your perspective on God’s timing. It really is best when we trust Him, even though it can take us awhile to see that.ReplyCancel
